Spirit of the Southwest Gathering

A VIP Gathering to Benefit La Plata Open Space Conservancy on a newly conserved property.

We are excited to invite you to an exclusive spring benefit on Saturday, May 7th from 4-7pm. The Spirit of the Southwest Gathering will be held on our most recently conserved property, the Haynie Site just outside of Cortez. The event is a unique opportunity to visit and learn about this special site – which is not open to the public – with its ancient Puebloan kivas, great houses, pit houses, and other artifacts of this Native American settlement built between 800-1100 A.D. The conservation easement held by La Plata Open Space Conservancy will ensure permanent preservation of the site, an important contribution to protecting the cultural heritage of the Southwest.

The Spirit of the Southwest Gathering is limited to 30 people and will include a private tour of the site given by archeologists from Crow Canyon Archeological Center. This will be followed by dinner featuring local and Indigenous resources as well as drinks provided by regional producers. We are respectfully asking for a donation of $750 per person to attend; all proceeds beyond expenses will benefit La Plata Open Space Conservancy and our work preserving important natural and working lands in southwestern Colorado.

Event Details:

4 – 4:30 PM – Guests arrive
4:30 – 5:30 PM – Tour of the site
5:30 – 7 PM – Dinner provided by Farmington’s Native-owned Waterbird Catering and local beverages from regional producers

This is a rain or shine event, but dinner will take place in a sheltered space. Please come prepared for the elements with layers and sturdy footwear. Directions to the site will be provided upon admission purchase. The site is approximately 50 minutes from Durango, and 10 minutes from the main Phil’s World Trailhead.

As the goods and services provided to each guest at the event have a fair market value of $50, the tax-deductible value of each donation will be equal to the value of the donation, less $50 per guest. Details regarding La Plata Open Space Conservancy’s tax-exempt status will be provided upon donation.
