You helped us raise over $11,000 on Colorado Gives Day – Thank You!
…And a Successful 2023
As the year comes to an end and the holidays draw near, LPOSC has much to celebrate. We want to express our gratitude for an especially impactful year, made possible by all of you – our landowners, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Thank you for supporting LPOSC’s continued work protecting the lands and waterways that make Southwest Colorado so special!
We worked with five landowners on new conservation easements this year and are on track to protect 800 acres of land by early 2024. Did you know that only 4% of private land in La Plata County is permanently protected? You can help us increase that number, while still allowing responsible development.
Ticket sales are now live for our annual Snowdown fundraiser! All proceeds from this popular event support LPOSC’s work to conserve Southwest Colorado’s land, water, and way of life – and we might be biased, but we think that tickets make a great last-minute gift idea.
Not sure what to expect? Check out this video of last year’s event.

LPOSC Secures Funding for New Conservation Project
The Durango Herald broke the news last week that LPOSC has received a grant to partially cover transaction costs for a 500+ acre conservation easement in the Florida River corridor. While we can’t say exactly where the property is yet, we can share a more appropriate photo! As you might guess from the above photo, this conservation easement will protect critical wildlife habitat and migration corridors, among other significant conservation values.
Do you have an extra room, ADU, or land for camping? You can support the next generation of conservationists by hosting a Southwest Conservation Corps member. You may be eligible for compensation and tax benefits. Please find more information here and reach out to Jacob at jmandell@conservationlegacy.org for more information.
La Plata Open Space Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your gift may be tax deductible. Our EIN number is: 84-1204273.
